David Paul Sims, age 57 after a long struggle battling diabetes and kidney failure, died on Sunday, July 10, 2016 in the Specialty Unit at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.
David graduated from Springfield North High School and then attended classes at Clark State Community College. David had a wide variety of interests, from reading, art, music and fishing. He also did volunteer work for the Mid Ohio Food Bank and First Community Church Food Pantry. David's number one passion though was his Cincinnati Reds and his beloved OSU Buckeyes. He attended hundreds of sports games over the years including the World Series and the OSU National Championship games in both basketball and football.
David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Reda Sims; brothers, Terry Sims and John Sims; sister, Gretchen Bower, and father-in-law, James Neff, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Christine Neff Sims; his children Lisa, Jessica and Joshua Sims; his step mom and dad, Kay and Danny Leach; step sister, Sharon (Paul) South; mother-in-law, Corlyn Neff; brother, Larry (Karen) Fontanini; brothers-in-law, Tom (Gina) Neff, William Neff, James (Bev) Neff; sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Mike) Daugherty, and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 4-6pm, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, S.W., 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123, where the funeral service will be held following the visitation at 6:00pm. Rev. James M. Long of First Community Church officiating. Internment will be held at a later date.
