David Simmons, born on August 15, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on May 5, 2026, in Grove City, Ohio. A lifelong resident of the area, David lived a life marked by dedication, love, and service.
He proudly graduated from Central High School in 1957 before serving his country in the US Army from 1957 to 1964. After his military service, David dedicated many years to his career, working for The Timkin Company followed by Ohio Bell, Ameritech, and AT&T, from which he retired.
Known as the "inventor of tools for everything," David possessed a remarkable knack for creating solutions. He was a quiet man with a strong, sometimes ornery spirit, yet he was deeply loving and supportive of his family and willing to help anyone in need. His hobbies and interests reflected his hands-on nature and curiosity: he loved working on cars, studying the Civil War, watching military shows, practicing gunsmithing, and enjoyed fishing outings with Millie. He also gave his time assisting with the West High School Band Boosters, showing his care for community and youth.
David was most proud of his sons, Doug (Jodie) Simmons and Drew (Angie) Simmons, who survive him. He was also blessed with grandchildren, Kennedy and Keaton. Family was a core part of his life, and he leaves behind his sister Marilyn Alvoid, sister-in-law Verna Simmons, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family who remember him fondly.
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 55 years, Joan; his parents, Owen and Madaline (Roberts) Simmons; his brother Dick Simmons; and his brother-in-law George Alvoid.
