Delbert Leo Wagner

Delbert Leo Wagner, affectionately known as “Del,” passed away peacefully at his residence on July 21, 2026. Born on February 7, 1962, in Burlington, Iowa, Del lived a life grounded in dedication, generosity, and a steadfast love for his family and friends.

Del proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. His commitment to serving others extended beyond his military service, continuing with his career as a corrections officer at Iowa State Penitentiary, where he dedicated many years. Through his work, Del became known not just for his professionalism, but for his genuine kindness and integrity. He was, in every sense, the salt of the earth—always willing to give the shirt off his back to help those in need, whether they were family, friends, or a complete stranger.

Those who knew Del will fondly remember his passion for simple joys. He spent many contented hours fishing, found humor and comfort in watching old westerns, and cherished every chance to be surrounded by those he loved. Del was rarely without a “Dad joke” at hand, ready to coax a smile or a laugh from those around him. His sense of humor and warmth left a lasting impression in every gathering.

Above all, Del was a devoted and proud father. He delighted in supporting his children’s adventures and hobbies, encouraging their pursuits with unwavering enthusiasm. The time he spent with his family was precious, and his legacy is deeply rooted in the love and support he shared.

Del leaves behind his beloved wife, Tara Bryant; his children, Halie (Mike) Lawrence, Jason Wagner, and Ashley Wagner; his granddaughter, Nevaeh Lawrence; his siblings, Rick (Brenda) Wagner, Lee Wagner, Danny (Jolene) Allen, Leona Wagner, and Doak Allen; his mother-in-law, Karen (Sonny) Burdette; and a dear friend, Mike (Lisa) Reichart. He is reunited in rest with his sister, Helen Mondorf; his mother, Hazel Wagner; and his father, Hilbert “Lucky” Wagner.

Family, friends, and all who knew Del are invited to celebrate his remarkable life and legacy. Visitation will be held on Wednesday,  August 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. A funeral service will take place at the same venue the next day on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tim Womack officiating. Following the service, Del will be laid to rest at Pleasant Cemetery, 14220 Era Rd, Mt Sterling, OH 43143, where a graveside service will be conducted and military honors will be held by members of the active United States Marine Corp and the American Legion Post #532.

Del Wagner’s enduring generosity, humor, and steadfast love have left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
