Listen to Obituary

Dennis Wendell Stanley, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 31st, while staying at the home of his granddaughter Savannah. Even in his final week, he was still cutting his own lawn and splitting his own wood. His strength and independence were a defining part of who he was. For nearly all of his 85 years, he was a remarkably healthy man, but in the end his heart simply decided it was time to rest.

Dennis was born to Hattie Gail Stanley and Roy Stanley, both deceased. He was raised on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work. That work ethic stayed with him throughout his life and became one of his most enduring qualities. He grew up alongside his siblings Darrell, Bill, Pat, Karen, and brother Rodney, who preceded him in death.

Dennis proudly served his country and retired as a Technical Sergeant (TSgt) in the United States Air Force. His military career took him to Libya, Okinawa, Thailand, Korea, twice to the Philippines, and many bases throughout the United States. After completing his military service, he continued his commitment to public duty and retired from the London Correctional Institution.

He was a devoted father to his children Gigi, Gail, Dennis, Teresa, Thomas, Karen, and Tony. He is preceded in death by Karen, who passed the day after she was born, and by Tony. Dennis is survived by Gigi, Gail and her husband Leonard, Dennis and his wife Amy, Teresa and her husband Jim, and Thomas and his wife Amie. Tony is survived by his wife Connie. Dennis was blessed with twenty grandchildren (Savannah, Dennis (who passed soon after birth), Earon, Jessie, James, Tim, Kaila, Stephan, Thomas, Antonio (who passed away), Haley, Hunter, Isabelle, Jazmin, Bryce, Christian, Jordan, Blaine, Sophia, Jhett) and twenty two great grandchildren all of whom he loved deeply.

To his family, Dennis was the most quietly loving and giving man they had ever known. He was steady, extremely humble, and always willing to do anything for the people he cared about. His presence was a source of comfort, his work ethic an example, and his love a constant. He touched countless lives with his kindness and strength, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Dennis leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love. His memory will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and the many friends and family members who were blessed to know him.
