Diane R. Mills

May 3, 1942 — August 8, 2025

Columbus

Diane R. Mills, a loving and devoted family member, passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 3, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, Diane graduated from Franklin Heights High School in the class of 1960 and briefly attended The University of Miami in Florida.

Diane's career spanned many years, beginning in bakeries, before moving on to a position with the State of Ohio as an administrative secretary for the Real Estate Commission. The majority of her professional life was spent with Huntington Clothiers, where she spent 20 years, retiring in the early 90’s. She was one of the initial three employees who helped grow the company into a large, successful nationwide business.

While Diane had a successful career, her main focus was always on her family. She was a deeply committed wife and proud mother who provided tremendous love, kindness, support and encouragement to her husband Neil, and her children. When Diane was in your presence, love was always felt.

Diane had several passions. Her greatest joy came from family gatherings, cherishing the times laughter was heard, stories were told and memories were created. She was an enthusiastic Ohio State fan who enjoyed cheering on the Buckeyes on football Saturdays. Diane delighted in cooking and baking and was known for making the best cherry pie. Diane also relished traveling with her husband, Neil. They traveled to many places in their 48 years together but most often enjoyed the excitement of Las Vegas and spending winters in South Florida. They also enjoyed going on cruises and loved boating on Lake Erie with family. Diane loved to play cards with friends and family. She also had a deep appreciation for nature and animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and watching animals in their natural habitat. Additionally, music was an important part of her life. She had an extensive knowledge of song lyrics and loved to sing along with many artists, especially with two of her favorite crooners, Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams. Diane found comfort in singing, even in the final days of her life.

Her family remembers her for her sweet and gentle nature. Her smile brought instant joy to others. Her laughter was heart warming, her kindness unmatched.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Lori) Mills; son, Mike Foe; daughter, Sharon Rehm; daughter- in-law, Mary Carol Mills; grandchildren, Scott (Danielle) Rehm, Mark Rehm, Matthew (Marcella) Mills, and Andrew (Danielle) Mills; niece Alice Baker, several great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and caregiver Denise Morgan, who deserves special thanks for several years of care, support, friendship and love.

Diane was preceded in death by her father, Richard Emmelhainz; her mother, Helen Emmelhainz; her husband of 48 years, Neil Kenneth Mills; and her son, Michael Mills.

Diane will be deeply missed by all who knew her, however her legacy of love and kindness will live on, continuing to inspire her family and friends.
