It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dolores C. Schaefer, who went peacefully home to be with the Lord on February 19th, 2026. She was our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Born on June 18th, 1943, in Jamaica Queens, New York, Dolores found her greatest joy in bringing people together, listening with kindness, and giving without hesitation. When she wasn't caring for others, Dolores loved gardening, cooking nightly dinners, telling stories and attending events for her kids and grandkids. In August 1963, she married the love of her life, Charles R. Schaefer. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared more than six decades of marriage rooted in commitment, sacrifice, and enduring love. She was the proud and devoted mother of eight children, and her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and deepest joy. Her family knew her as the rock who held them steady, the voice who comforted them through every season, and the soul who taught them the meaning of unconditional love. Dolores was the strongest woman: resilient in hardship, graceful in adversity, and selfless in every season of life. She carried burdens quietly, loved fiercely, and gave endlessly. Her faith, courage, and determination shaped generations.
Dolores is survived y her loving husband, Charles R. Schaefer; her sister Joanne Goss; her eight children, Jeanne A. Hutter; Diane C. Schaefer; James H. Schaefer; Robert S. Schaefer; Carol L. Homan; Catherine A. Farago; Arlene D. Haning; Dolores J. Hanson; her 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and dear friends. Each one blessed by her endless love, laughter, and generosity. Dolores was preceded in death by her father Henry Keppler and her mother J. Catherine Keppler, and her sister Carol Smith. We find comfort in knowing her kindness, generosity, laughter and unwavering love will remain in our hearts forever.
All who loved her are invited to attend calling hours on February 26th, 2026 from 4pm-7pm at Newcomer NE Chapel 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231. A funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church 313 N. State St. Westerville, OH 43082 at 10:30am on Friday, February 27th, 2026. Immediately following Mass, burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N. High St. Lewis Center, OH 43035.
Her life reflected the promise of Joshua 1:9. "Be strong and courageous...for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go," a strength Dolores lived and lovingly taught her children.
