Donald H. Bender, 86, of Westerville, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Kobacker House.
He was born January 19, 1928 in Columbus, son of the late Hugh and Ruth Alwood Bender.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his aunt, Seffie Alwood.
He was a graduate of West High School and attended The Ohio State University for 3 years.
Don served in the Navy for four years.
He was an auto mechanic, retired school teacher from Columbus Public Schools, owner/ operator of a pizza parlor and manager of Jaeger Machine Company.
He enjoyed acting, directing and producing in community theatres.
Don was also a musician playing the Accordion in community activities.
He also was a dance instructor for Fred Astaire.
Don also played in a Kazoo Band for nursing homes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Norma Lee Taylor Bender; Denise McCluney; Dennis Bender; sister, Margie (Fred) Crocker; grandchildren, Megan (Josh) Kerr, Matthew Bender, Marissa McCluney and Christopher McCluney; great granddaughter, Ivy Sue Ann Kerr.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 2014 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Central College Presbyterian Church, Main Sanctuary, 975 S. Sunbury Rd. Westerville with the memorial service beginning at 1:30 PM, with Dr. Rev. Richard D. Ellsworth and Rev. David Redding.
