Don Farrow passed away on September 25, 2014, a few weeks shy of his 86th birthday. He was a retired clergyman and executive, and an avid volunteer. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his five children and seven grandchildren.
Don was born on October 13, 1928 and was raised in Bryn Mawr, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.A. in English from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Upon completion of his Masters in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, he served a large Episcopal church outside Philadelphia before leading his own Philadelphia parish from 1955-1968. He joined the National Mental Health Association-Pennsylvania chapter and served as Director of Education until 1971. He then moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he was the Executive Director of the 3-county Mental Health Association for seven years. From 1978-85 Don was the State Director of the Alabama Mental Health Association, in Montgomery, Alabama and then came to Columbus as the State Director of the Ohio Mental Health Association. During the time Don was working for the Mental Health Association he worked as supply clergy for many Episcopal Churches in Ohio and Alabama. After retiring in 1992, he served as Interim Rector of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Westerville for 1½ years and then as the Chaplain at Whetstone Care Center for five years. Finally, in 1998, he retired altogether, yet he remained active with volunteer work at Inniswood Gardens starting in 2002. Among other volunteer activities, Don and Carolyn were instrumental in having the courses of Landmark Worldwide in the Columbus area. He also volunteered for many years with the Holiday Project, bringing groups of volunteers to visit patients at the Forensic Center on Christmas Day.
Don and Carolyn met in seminary - she was the librarian - and they celebrated 62 years of marriage on September 6th. Their five children, Libby McKnight, John, Peter and Tom Farrow and Martha Sarrack, and seven grandchildren, Hannah and Grace Farrow, Evan Farrow, Meaghan McGuire and Claire Farrow, Maggie and Morgan Sarrack, live in various parts of the country from Boston to Arizona.
