Doran Jackson Mooney, a cherished son of Columbus, Ohio, passed away at his residence on June 27, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on March 29, 1948, Doran’s life was a testament to warmth, simplicity, and profound connection with all who knew him.
From his earliest days, Mooney's engaging personality shone through. He had an innate gift for striking up conversation and brightening the lives of everyone he encountered. Friends and family often remarked that he never met a stranger—no one was immune to his easy smile or irresistible sense of humor. Beneath his charismatic exterior was a deeply down-to-earth soul. Mooney's genuine warmth helped forge countless meaningful friendships and touched the hearts of many in his community.
Mooney dedicated a significant part of his professional life to his long-standing career as an insurance adjustor, earning both the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of those he assisted. After retiring from the insurance field, he found a new chapter—and considerable joy—as a restaurant manager and owner, continuing to serve and connect with people in local establishments. Through long, industrious years in both careers, Mooney maintained the same principles: hard work, authenticity, and unflagging kindness.
Above all else, Mooney cherished the simplest and most precious joys—moments shared with loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy that is rich in love and human connection.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Diane Mooney; longtime friend and mother of his daughter, Ethel (Thivener) Mooney, who always stood by his side; and his close friend, Bryant Laughlin, each carrying forward memories of his loving presence and indelible spirit. Mooney was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Juanita Patrick, and his brother, Daniel Mooney.
Those who knew Mooney will recall a man defined not by grand gestures or material success, but by his extraordinary ability to make people feel truly seen and valued. He will be profoundly missed.
