It is with both deep sorrow and enduring hope in Christ that we announce the unexpected passing of Doreen A. Zimmerman, a beloved wife, devoted mother, and “Bubba”. She was called home to be with the Lord on September 4th, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on March 31, 1957 in Warren, Ohio, Doreen was the youngest daughter of Leon and Helen Woloski. She met the love of her life, Ken Zimmerman in Akron while he was in college and she was in nursing school. They were married on August 25th, 1979, and together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. Doreen was known for her kind heart, quick humor, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids where she was a supportive and guiding presence in their lives. She was one of the five founding members of the “Grandma Group” that eventually grew to oversee 14 grandchildren – a group that will continue to thrive in her memory. She had a very active social life including involvement in multiple book clubs, bible study groups, and the Price Farms social committee where she and Ken lived. She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sudoku, gardening, traveling with friends and family, and planning get-togethers with nursing friends, neighbors, and extended family. Doreen had a life-long passion for learning. During her 47 years as a registered nurse, she had a positive influence on many lives, including educating others by organizing and presenting at the Mt. Carmel Health System Maternal/Neonatal Conference for many years and serving as a longtime member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). In true fashion, she never stopped learning and helping others. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ken; children Adam (Kristin) and Stefanie (Dustin); grandchildren, Griffin, Eleanor, Jackson, Jonah, and Leon; brother, Delbert Woloski; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Leon and Helen Woloski; sister, Dianne McLaughlin; and brother, Donald Woloski.Visitation will be on September 14th at Newcomer Funeral Home in Powell from 3pm-6pm. A funeral service will be held on September 15th at St. Brigid Kildare Church in Dublin, with visitation from 10am-11am and mass at 11am. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate the beautiful life she lived. She will be interred at the St. Michaels Cemetery in Newton Falls, Ohio, on September 16th at 11am.
While our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that Doreen is now at peace, resting in the embrace of her Savior. Her light lives on in the countless lives she touched, and the world is truly better for having had her in it.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doreen’s name to the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses here or to the OhioHealth Kobacker House here
