Dorothy Jean Hammond, born on October 28, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on February 1, 2026, in Galloway, Ohio. A proud graduate of Plains High School in Mt. Sterling, Dorothy was a bright light who had a personality that could truly light up a room. She was known for her humor and her unfiltered honesty, qualities that made her well-loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her faith and love for church were central to her life.
Dorothy dedicated much of her time to caring for her family, including her beloved children and grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in the accomplishments of her family. Dorothy had a special fondness for owls and enjoyed listening to country music, particularly the tunes of George Jones and Alan Jackson. Cooking was another passion, and she often found joy in the meals she prepared. Some of her favorite dining spots included Golden Corral and Ponderosa, where she delighted in enjoying good food with her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma; son, Larry (with Nettie); and daughter, Kelley. Her legacy continues to live on through her grandchildren, JR, Arianna, Reagan, and Tegan. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Kelley, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember her fondly.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Imogene Kelley, and her husband, Raymond Hammond.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 15, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering and honoring Dorothy's vibrant spirit.
