Dr. Gursharan Singh

September 10, 1950 — June 11, 2025

Dr. Gursharan Singh, fondly known as Gogi, Gurshi, Mota Bhai, and Mota Darling, passed away peacefully at his home in Blacklick, Ohio, on the morning of June 11, 2025. He was 75 years old, surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

Born in Faridkot, Punjab, India, Dr. Singh lived a life defined by service, joy, intellect, and humility. A brilliant academic and compassionate soul, he completed his early education at Khalsa High School and DAV College Jalandhar before earning his medical degree from Government Medical College Amritsar and an MD in Internal Medicine from PGI Chandigarh.

In 1976, he began practicing medicine in Bathinda—then an underserved region—and went on to establish Chandigarh Clinic and Nursing Home, which still bears his name today. His commitment to healing was unwavering, and his generosity unmatched. Known for offering care to anyone in need and mentoring students with joy, he proudly wrote on his prescription pad:“I treat, HE cures.”

He was a proud Sikh who lived by the principle of matt uchhi, man neevaan—aim high, remain humble. He regularly organized free clinics, served at schools for children with special needs and underprivileged backgrounds, and lifted those around him through quiet acts of kindness.

Dr. Singh was more than a physician—he was a radiant presence, a storyteller, a singer, and a natural host who brought people together wherever he went. His love for music evolved into duet performances with his beloved wife, Surekha, his “partner in crime and karaoke.” The two were often spotted sharing a mic at family gatherings and events, singing with joy and harmony. He was a die-hard cricket fan, a Bollywood trivia master, a state-level badminton player, a strong swimmer, and a proud Punjabi foodie who believed anything delicious deserved to be savored. His humor was timeless, his joy infectious, and his love for family and friends limitless.

In his later years, he became lovingly known as “the Great Connector”—a role he embraced both in person and digitally. A ridiculously efficient WhatsApp forwarder, he brought together relatives, classmates, and old friends from across the globe. Through daily jokes, voice notes, old songs, and blessings, he became the thread that kept communities connected.Though he faced health challenges in recent years, Dr. Singh never let illness define him. He would often say, “I can overcome anything,” and he did—always with a smile. His family often marveled at his almost superhuman resilience, powered by an unshakable belief that the mind and heart could transcend the body. His family believes his true purpose in life was to bring people together, to enrich their lives, and to make them smile—and he fulfilled that purpose with unmatched grace. The flood of heartfelt messages, voice notes, and shared memories pouring in since his passing is a testament to the lives he touched and the joy he radiated.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Surekha (lovingly called "Ojee"), whom he often credited—next to God—for every joy in his life. He also leaves behind his children, Jashan and Hina, his daughter-in-law Gurinder (Guddu), and his grandchildren Angelina, Jiya, and Saahir, who were his pride and joy. His siblings Raminder Singh (Billoo), Harjinder Singh (Ghukoo), and Amarjeet Kaur (Guddy) also survive him. He was preceded in death by his brother Parminder Singh (Titu). One of his favorite film lines captured the essence of his journey:

“Rote hue aate hain sab, hasta hua jo jayega—woh mukaddar ka sikandar kehlayga.”(“All come into this world crying; the one who leaves with a smile shall be called the conqueror of destiny.”)

Dr. Gursharan Singh leaves us smiling—because that is how he lived. He was a mukaddar ka sikandar, a healer of bodies and spirits, a connector of hearts, and a man who carried joy wherever he went.

The family invites all who knew and loved him to celebrate his memory by living joyfully, serving humbly, laughing often, and staying connected—just as he did.

He is remembered just as fondly by those who spent five minutes with him as by those who had the gift of knowing him for over fifty years. That was the gravity of his impact—the ability to light up a room, a moment, or a life with presence alone.
