Dr. Karl Jeney
July 4, 1919 — October 23, 2013
Dr. Karl Jeney, beloved father, uncle and friend to many was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, October 23, 2013.
Born July 4, 1919 in the city of Marosvasarhely, Transylvania, Romania (formerly a part of Hungary.)
Karl maintained a cultured life and despite the ravages of World War II carried his Magyar/ Hungarian heritage proudly to the end. Residing in Germany after the war he married fellow Hungarian the late Martha Voloczi Naphegy and then emigrated on a troop transport ship with her across the Atlantic to the United States in January 1951, eventually settling in Columbus, Ohio.
He remarried the late Betty Nesmith in 1958; they were together for 30 years.
Karl was a former Hungarian and Romanian Gold Medal National figure skating champion, Hungarian Gold Medal swimming champion and water-polo player.
Dr. Jeney held two doctorates - one in law and one in political science - from Franz Joseph University in Hungary. He practiced law for a year in Hungary, then after arriving in the United States worked on a farm, drove a delivery truck for Omar Bakery while attending night school at Franklin University to further his law and negotiating skills. He was a hearing aid salesman in Pensacola, Florida and, returning to Columbus, joined the Prudential Insurance Company in 1961 retiring in 1988 after 27 years. He ran his own agency, was a member of the Prudential President's Club, the Million Dollar Roundtable, and a top salesman nationally.
Karl is preceded in death by his parents Atilla and Rozalia Jeney, his only sister Eva Varga, and beloved daughter Agnes Katalin Jeney.
He is survived by daughter Martie Jeney and son Karl Atilla Jeney. His loss will be profoundly felt by all who knew him in life, including his two children, and his close nephew Steven Varga and his wife Michelle and sons Zack (Ashley) and Josh - beloved Jack Russell terrier "Spencer."
Visitation Friday, November 1, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd, Columbus, OH.
Funeral service Saturday, November 2 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 W. Broad St., Galloway, Ohio.
