Edward Tibor Bory

April 22, 1929 — July 9, 2016

Edward Tibor Bory, 87, was born in Marianostra, Hungary to Sophia and Ference Bori on April 22, 1929. He passed away July 9, 2016 at his home in Delaware, Ohio, cared for by his family throughout a brave battle with cancer.

In Hungary, he survived the Nazi occupation during World War II, completed technical training in Budapest, become an airplane mechanic and test pilot for the Hungarian air force. He married Magda Matrai on August 5th, 1950, and had a daughter, Annamaria. After military service, he opened a Sweets Shop in Budapest. In 1956, he was a freedom fighter in the Hungarian Revolution, and in 1957, Tibor led his family in a daring escape from their occupied homeland.

He began work in America at the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland Ohio, and later worked in construction. By the early 1960's, Tibor was the principal force in creating Oceana Park in Newbury, Ohio, a recreation facility that operated for more than two decades, and featured the first wave pool in America. He worked as a construction troubleshooter for Self Service Mini Storage and Lube Stop, until retirement in 1994.

Tibor lost his wife Magda to illness on their 49th wedding anniversary, but is survived by his only child, Annamaria, her husband, Gregory K. Ackers, grandchildren Madelyn and Grant Ackers, daughter-in-law Laurissa Topelin Ackers, and his older brother Geza in Kitchener, Canada.

Tibor was an exceptional builder, sculptor, an avid gardener, cook, baker.

His work ethic and dedication to doing things right earned the respect of all who knew him, and built a foundation of striving and a legacy of achievement for his family in Delaware, Ohio.

Tibor will always be lovingly remembered by family and friends.

His family will host a Celebration of Life from 3-8pm on Sunday, July 17 at Home Road Party House, 6772 Home road, Delaware, Ohio, 43015
