Born December 25, 1935, in Clarksburg, WV. Died February 11, 2017, in Columbus, OH. Predeceased by parents Edwin and Edna (Wright) Yerkey, sister Janet Harley, brother David Yerkey, sister-in-law Nancy Yerkey, and father- and mother-in-law Wallace and Evelyn (Cress) Weiland.
Survived by wife Norma (Weiland) Yerkey; daughters Ann (Dr. Michael) Freeman, Jennifer (Douglas) Smith, and Jillian (Dale) Johnson. Survived by grandchildren Casey (Grant) Haldeman and daughter Evelyn, Lauren and Pete Freeman, Abigail and Bradley Smith, and Amelia and Meredith Johnson. Also surviving are sisters Carolyn (Stanley) DeGreve, Joyce (William) Sprague, and Connie (Michael) Beck; brother Jack Yerkey; brother-in-law Thomas Harley; sisters-in-law Diane (James) Hoffsis and Melanie (George) Lowmiller; and brother-in-law Harold (Norma) Weiland..
Class of 1954, Crestline High School, where he played baseball, football, and basketball. Attended Ohio State and Ashland universities. Veteran of U.S. Air Force. Retired from White Consolidated Industries in Cleveland. Dwayne adored his grandchildren and was proud of their academic and athletic accomplishments. He enjoyed traveling to Ireland and the Outer Banks with family and was an avid Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavs fan. He was a skilled craftsman who could master any home improvement project. Dwayne was a lifelong Democrat and maintained an interest in history and politics.
A celebration of Dwayne's life will be held on March 4 from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Worthington Hills Country Club, 920 Clubview Boulevard South, Columbus, OH 43235.
