Listen to Obituary

Elizabeth Gale Newton (also called Beth, Bethie, Aunt B, and Miss Bet) went to be with her Jesus on October 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

A celebration service will be held at Johnstown Independent Baptist (JIBC), 7397 Johnstown-Alexandria Rd. Johnstown, Ohio 43031 on Monday October 27. Visitation will be Sunday October 26, 3:00-6:00 pm in the fellowship hall, and Monday October 27, from 11:00-1:00 with a service following in the sanctuary. Burial will follow the service at the Jersey Township Cemetery.

Beth was born in Detroit, MI on July 3, 1950. At age 9 she knew she wanted to be a missionary, and she spent the next 15 years living her life in preparation to be one. She graduated from Wheaton College in 1972, then attended Case Western Reserve University to get her Nursing degree. It was there she met Faye Bandi, and they had an opportunity to go to Haiti for 2 years as nurses/missionaries. While there, she was introduced to many people who became life-long friends.

She returned to the States to obtain her Nurse Practitioner/Mid-Wife degree from the Frontier Nursing Service in Hyden, KY. She then went back to Haiti and served in many ways for over thirty years, including: educating about infant nutrition, serving in the clinic and hospital as a nurse, teaching children’s Bible classes (attended by up to 300 children), establishing a government accredited school for Haitian RNs to become nurse practitioners, and translating for visiting doctors.

She continued in her commitment to serve by being willing to leave her Haitian family and come to Ohio to help care for her parents until their passing.

She was involved with AWANA, International Friendship Inc., and helped serve refugees on the West side of Columbus.

Beth is survived by her sister Katherine G. Newton, her brother William A. Newton III (Claudia), her sister, Nanci A. Darrough (Jim), her niece Chelsea N. Martins (Andy) with Jayden and Ivy, nephew William A. Newton IV (Madeline) and Aari, nephew Andrew J. Newton and fiancée Samantha Lechner, niece Julia A. Newton, nephew Spencer N. Darrough, and niece Helen E. Darrough.

Devoted in her faith, Beth found strength and purpose from her relationship with Jesus. Her joyful countenance, kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her generous heart, and her unwavering belief in the power of prayer. Her life was a testament to Proverbs 31: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to World Team, USA.
