Elizabeth R. (Bette) McMillan, 92, passed away at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor on December 19, 2014.
Bette was born in Columbus on March 4, 1922 to the late Edward and Mary Harner. She was a graduate of South High School.
Bette is a member of St. Matthias Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, journaling, gardening, and feeding and watching her birds.
Bette was retired from the Columbus Public Library, where she also conducted a book club for more than thirty years with a wonderful group of women who became life-long friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Kiser of Newark; her sons, Mark (Bonnie) McMillan and Jeff (Debbie) McMillan, both of Gahanna; grandchildren, Seth Kiser, Joshua (Chrissie) Kiser, Sarah (Shane) Meyer, Jarrod (Jess) McMillan, and Susan McMillan; great-grandchildren, Izabella, Matt, and Trenton; and several nieces and nephews that were so dear to her heart.
In addition to her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell McMillan; sisters, Mary (Ralph) Weist and Catherine (Jack) McMillan; son-in-law, Paul Kiser Jr.; and dearest friends, Iris, Ruth, May, Pauline, Rosemary, Jean Ann, Jane, and Sissy.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Chapel Grove Inn in Heath; loving nurses, aides, and caregivers of the 4E wing of Mother McCrory; and the caring and compassionate staff of the Mt. Carmel Hospice, especially Tina, James, Jill, and Dr. Taylor; great appreciation to Msgr. Paul Enke and Homebound Ministers of Church of St. Edward, Sr. Marie Shields, and the late Fr. James Smith for all their visits, love, and support for the last four years. Finally, to Ann McKrell, who never missed sending Bette a note every few weeks, as she always looked forward to them.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Rd. Columbus, OH 43224 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest during a private family committal service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Faith Mission, PO Box 182010, Columbus, OH 43218-2010, Bette's favorite charity, or the Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd. Columbus, OH 43215.
