Elma Janet West

Elma Janet West (Cowgill), age 78, passed away, July 29, 2017 at her home. Janet was born on February 24, 1939 in North Lewisburg, Ohio.
She graduated a year early from Linden McKinley High School in 1956, as a member of the National Honor Society. She later graduated from Franklin University in 1974 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, all while raising her children and working full time. Janet was retired from the State of Ohio, where she was employed for 42 years. She began her career as a secretary, later becoming a Director of the Foster Grandparent Program, which placed senior citizens to work with special needs children. She retired from the Department of Insurance in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Jack R. West, her parents John H. and Lee Annis (Grant) Cowgill, brother Howard Cowgill, and sisters Delores Kimmel and Marjorie Grace, stepson Thomas R. West, and special friend George H. Johnson Sr. She will be sadly missed by her son Mark West, daughter Theresa (Gary) Asher, grandchildren Brandon (Megan) Klein, Eileen and Kathryn Asher, Shawn West, Sarah Baxter and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Monday, August 7, 2017, from 10am to 12pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231. Memorial Service will follow at 12pm at the funeral home.
