Elmer E. Dobbins "E", 68, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, OH. E was born on February 27, 1948 in Columbus, OH to George D. and Alma (Greer) Dobbins.
E is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by wife, Elaine Meredith-Dobbins; children, Brandon E. (Shelly) Dobbins, David E. (Chris) Dobbins, Angela D. (Chris) Dobbins, Ryan (Donna) Dobbins, Traci (Jess) Sandifer, and Brieanna (Jarid) Shearn; grandchildren, Cassidy E. Dobbins, Sage Parker, Stella Shearn, Lindsay Snyder, Tara Corres, and Niki Burnham; great-grandchildren, Kian, Jane, Alice and Sophia; siblings, Jane (Larry) Distelhorst, James R. (Jan) Dobbins, Roberta A. Dumm, and Harry G. (Judy) Dobbins; and many other loving family members and friends.
E was a 1967 graduate of Columbus West High School. E served as a Crew Chief/Aircraft Mechanic for 4 years in the USAF. During that time he served in both The Military Air Command and The Strategic Air Command Units. As a Vietnam Veteran he was a Crew Chief on C123B's, vital to the war effort with the ability to get in and out of remote outposts quickly, transporting troops, ammunition, medical supplies, and ground equipment.
Coming out of his service for our country he gained a greater appreciation of life and the freedoms we all enjoy in the USA. His direct quote was "As a result of MY military experiences, I live my life by the motto, Deeds not Words".
He received his degree in Electronics from DeVry University. He worked as the Controls Electronics Technician, overseeing the entire Oak Street facility at Boehringer-Ingelheim Roxane Inc., a pharmaceutical company, for 24 years. E happily retired in April of 2013 to enjoy a life of golfing, dancing, hunting, and enjoying family and friends. E was serving as Vice Commander at the American Legion Post 248 in Plain City, OH.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 30, 2016 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Legion, Post 248, P0 Box 82 Plain City, OH 43064, in E's honor.
