Emilie Geravia Wright

April 18, 1941 — March 8, 2017

Emily Geravia Wright of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 8. Known to most people as Geravia or "Geri," she was born in Beckley, W.Va. on April 18, 1941, the daughter of Kira Evelyn Walthall and Coleman Cook.

In 1948, Kira Walthall married William A. Dodson Sr., and the family moved to New Castle, Pa., in 1951. Geravia graduated from New Castle High School. As a singer with local rock and roll groups while in high school, she appeared on The Clark Race Show on KDKA TV in Pittsburgh. After high school, she served in the Air Force. She married Kenneth Lane and had two daughters, Yvette Harris and Renita Lane.

Geravia later married William Wright of Farrell, Pa. She worked on the Pennsylvania Turnpike as a toll collector and later at a bank in New Castle. In Farrell, she worked at a fabric store and for the city government. She was an expert seamstress, baker and cook.

In recent years, she lived with her sister, Angela Dodson, in Trenton, N.J. and most recently in Columbus, Ohio, near her brother and daughter Yvette.

She is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather and nephew.

She is survived by her daughters, her sister and brother-in-law Michael Days; her brother, William A. Dodson Jr.; sister-in-law Judythe Dodson; uncle, Robert J. Walthall of New Castle, grandchildren, Geravia Lane, Christopher Lane, Kenneth Lane and Anthony Chaney; 17 great-grandchildren; nephews, Edward, Adryan, Andrew and Umi Days, and many cousins.

A visitation and funeral service are pending at Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Avenue, New Castle, PA
