A life well-lived, Ercell Bennett, 90, took her last breath in her earthly presence and breathed in her first breath into eternity on May 23, 2021. Ercell was born July 11, 1930, in Middletown, Ohio to the late Tobias and Florence Bennett. She leaves to honor her memory her sister LaVerne Ford, children, Barry (Sandie) Bennett, Sandra (Ted) Hale, Kim Hill, Carolanne (William) McLean, 12 Grandchildren Myron Hill, Brona Gay, Rhavi (April Flynn) Hill, Daniel Bennett, Jeremy (Nicolle)Thompson, Chris Coldwell, Sun Eric Hill, Jamal (Shova) Hale, Dominique (Dayton) Hart, Diondra Hale, William McLean, Brandon McLean, (23) Great-Grandchildren, and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ercell was preceded in death by her parents, Tobias and Florence Bennett, daughters Halitia Weeks, Jessica Hill, her sister Sandra Saxton, and (8) brothers, Richard, Toby Jr, Nathaniel, Wilson, Rufus, Samuel, Thelbet, and Gene Paul.
Ercell loved the Lord and used her musical talent and gifts to worship and praise the name of Jesus, by living a life that showed the fruit of the spirit. Galatians 5:22, "But the fruit of the spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, and Faith." She covered her family and friends throughout the years with prayer, advice, strong hugs, a foot-stomping happy greeting, and a smile that covered you with love. She walked fearlessly with God, travailed in the spirit, and showed up whenever or wherever she was needed. She was known for her sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love, and faith.
We all will remember the anointing that flowed, as she blessed us with her God-given gift that made the Hammond organ talk. She played the organ, worshiped with a hand wave of praise, and shouted giving honor to God testifying of His goodness and mercy. And we all know she had a special love for greens, watermelon and hot water cornbread.
One of Ercell's favorite songs was, "When Sunday Comes" by Darryl Coley and God saw fit to call her home on a Sunday morning. "Just to behold his face is what she lived for, all trouble gone, she has a new song, no more heartache and pain." She was a Godly and incredibly strong woman, who lived for the promise God promised us all. She left a legacy to her family of God's amazing love and grace and was an example to all who knew her. We look forward to the day we will be reunited in Heaven
