Ernest J. Muetzel

Ernest J. “Ernie” Muetzel, 79, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away at his residence on August 25, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio.

Ernie will be remembered as a hardworking man whose career reflected dedication and steady service. He retired as a salesperson after working for Sears Hardware, and he also worked as a courier for the Mount Carmel Hospital system across Columbus. Beyond his work, he found great happiness in spending time with family and friends, and those moments together were an important part of his life.

He was especially known for his love of music and collecting. An avid vinyl record collector, Ernie built a collection of more than 7,000 records, with a particular fondness for 45s. He also enjoyed attending swap meets and record shows, pursuits that brought him both enjoyment and connection with others who shared his interests.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Karen Muetzel; his son, David (Lori) Muetzel; his step-son, Brian (Cindy) Gallagher; his brother-in-law, Ronnie Hatcher; and his grandsons, Jackson Muetzel and Jesse Muetzel. He will be deeply missed by his family and by the many friends who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Muetzel; his mother, Margaret Muetzel; and his first wife, Diana Muetzel.

A graveside service will be held on September 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery, 8270 Cemetery Pike, Plain City, Ohio 43064, with Pastor Landon Yowell officiating.

Ernie’s memory will live on in the love of his family, in the friendships he cherished, and in the music and memories that brought him so much joy.  The family would also like to extened a heartfelt thanks to Ronnie and the staff of Zusman Hospice for the compassionate care and help during this time.
