Ernest H. Prater Jr., passed away on April 25, 2017 at his residence. He was born on July 2, 1942 in Flatfork, KY.
He was a 1960 graduate of Grove City High School. Ernest attended the Ohio State University and graduated from IBM Computer School. He worked at the Columbus Gas Company, worked on the starting gate at Beulah Park Race Track, Fry's Horse Transportation as a semi-driver, Jones Transfer-Local 413, was an accomplished Farrier for several years and a honorary Kentucky Colonel. Ernest enjoyed draft horses and mules. He raised and sold draft horses for several years as well as horse drawn equipment. He participated yearly in the Ohio Corn Huskers Association contests as a teamster. He enjoyed going to Old Timer's Field events with his horses.
Those who knew him will say he died a Horseman!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marietta "Dennie" (Isaac) Prater, Ernest H. Prater Sr., brother, Tommie K. Prater.
Surviving family includes wife of 53 years, Sharon, children, son, Nathan J. Prater, daughter, Julie (Jeremy) Lambert, grandchildren, Chloe and Paul Lambert, brother-in-law, Paul Zeier, sister-in-law, Debby Zeier, niece, Heather Hyster and family, nephew, Bram Zeier and family and several other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm, Friday, April 28, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH. A funeral service will be held at 10am, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Grove City Cemetery-new section.
