Esther Mae Nester of Grove City

Esther went home to heaven 10 days before her 99th birthday and lived a long and healthy life, still sharp until the end.

She was born in Akron OH but grew up on Mineral Wells, WV. She met and married Melvin Nester in 1948, moved to Grove City in 1955 and was married for 54 years when he passed away in 2002.

Esther earned her bachelor of music degree at the age of 51, from The Ohio State University; a life-long dream and taught piano for 45 years, at one point having 60 students. She played the organ for the First Baptist Church of Grove City for 25 years and volunteered at Grove City Christian School all through her grandchildren’s years of attending and up until age 91 when she was no longer able to drive. She was a member of the Grove City United Methodist church for 70 years.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, John and Roxie Dye, her brother and sister-in-law Ed and Violet Dye, her brother-in-law, Joe Crites and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Frances Chambers.

She is survived by her children Pam (Ken) Loucks; Tom Nester; Jym (Becky) Nester, grandchildren, Lisa Walker, Jessica Robinson; Carmen (Travis) Baisden; Olivia Nester and 8 great-grandchildren: Trenton, Blake, Hayden, Ava, Brick, Havana, Lydia, and Greyson; brother Basil (Charlotte) Dye, who called her every day for over a decade, sister-in-law Alice Crites and many nieces and nephews and close family friends (Sally & Donna). She was a very special “Grammy Esther” to Brad, Bridgett and Baylee and their children.

Esther was an avid fan of Ohio State basketball and football, rarely missing a game. She had a love for life, enjoying every minute, often saying that she didn’t want to miss anything. She also was a huge fan of Bingo and “Jeopardy.” Everyone who knew Esther loved her. Even the nurses and aids who cared for her spoke highly of her, referring to her as “their favorite patient.” She was a bright light in everybody’s life, with her positive, inquisitive manner and was an amazing mom and “Grammy.” She will be missed, terribly, by all of us who loved her.

Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and on Friday from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Funeral service at the funeral home at 12:00pm on Friday, June 6, 2025. Burial to follow at Concord Cemetery, Grove City, OH.
