Fern Lou Jones

Fern Lou Jones, 85, of Ashville, passed away on May 24, 2026. She was born on March 6, 1941 in Columbus to the late Earl and Edith (Epley) Velinoff. She married Charles Thivener, and they preceded her in death on.

Those left to cherish memories of Fern include children, Patricia Thivener, Marty Thivener, Wayne Thivener, Vicky Thivener, and Lisa Thivener; grandchildren, Stacy (Paul) and Chad (Maggie) Thivener, Brian Miller Jr: Justin (Jamie), Billie Vale; Caitlyn; Nikki, Shawn, Chris and Tony: Cori Lynn, Dwayne Jr, Jared and Alexander.

Great-grandchildren, Alex, Grace, and Brandon Thivener; Caleb, Hailey, Makaela Mohr, and Hunter James, Ava and Mason; and many other family members and friends.

Fern was preceded in death by her son Charles on January 29, 2006, who help with her caretaking. Fern and Charles were very close, and he made sure she had everything she needed to live a full life vis-versa.

Fern worked as a Nuclear Medicine Delivery Driver for Cardinal Health for over 29 years, until her retirement. When she wasn’t working, she loved to keep QVC on their toes, spending time with family, having cookouts and spending holidays with her kids.

A service to honor Fern’s life will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be a Day of celebration for her and Charles in the coming dates soon. The Newcomer family is honored to serve the Jones and Thivener families.
