Florene Pricilla Truitt, a cherished mother, grandmother, and steadfast pillar of her family, passed away on May 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rich with love and devotion. Born on October 28, 1933, in Dayton, Florene lived a life marked by unwavering commitment to her loved ones and a spirit that warmed every heart she touched.
Married on September 16, 1950, to Floyd G. Truitt, Florene shared 68 beautiful years with the love of her life, a union that stood as a testament to enduring partnership and mutual respect. Although her beloved husband and several dear family members, including her son Brian, daughter Michelle, parents Olly and Anna Paulene Jefferson, sisters Margaret (Doodle), Barb, Shirly, Sharen Rose, brother Jesse (JW), daughter-in-law Susan, and grandson Dwight Shawn have preceded her in death, the love and memories she planted continue to flourish in the hearts of those who survive her.
Florene was a proud mother and Mother-in-law to seven children: Gary Truitt and his wife Susan(deceased); David Truitt and his wife Lori; Dwight Truitt and his wife Pam; Brian Truitt(deceased) and his wife Karen; Diane Truitt;, Phillip Truitt and his wife Tonya; and Michelle Paulene(deceased).
Beyond her children, she was a beloved matriarch to an expansive family of 70 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Known for her "double dose of maternal instinct," Florene proudly served and nurtured her family throughout her life. Her heartfelt mantra to her children was simple yet profound: "I love you more and make a memory." This loving guidance inspired generations and shaped the close-knit family community she cherished.
The family will honor Florene’s memory with a viewing on May 30, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Both events will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast, located at 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, Ohio. Burial will follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
Florene’s departure leaves the world a much sadder place without her gentle presence, bright smile, and nurturing soul. Her strength and love remain eternal, lovingly carried forward by her children and the many generations she so deeply touched.
May her family and friends find solace in their treasured memories and the enduring love she so freely gave.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution can be made in Florene's memory to Pastor Jimmy Swaggart.
