Frank Charles Porter Jr., affectionately known as Uncle Jr., passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on September 18, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, Frank lived a life marked by kindness and generosity, tempered with a dash of stubbornness and sass.
Frank dedicated many years of his career serving as a custodian for Columbus City Schools and also worked as a dock worker for Caito Fruit. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession; he proudly served in the army, achieving the rank of E5, and was honorably discharged.
A proud Master Mason, Frank found joy in various activities outside of work. He had a keen interest in chess, which showcased his strategic thinking, and he delighted in sipping Hennessy and smoking his pipe while enjoying jazz music, often appreciating a touch of opera to accompany it. He also enjoyed spending time with his side kick, Buddy 2.
Frank leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Charles Porter, Sr.; his mother, Mary Porter; his wife, Elizabeth Porter; and his siblings: brother Albert Harris, brother Allen Jones, Sr., sister Magdalena Prentiss, sister Geraldine Lewis, and brother Kenny Groce.
Visitation services for Frank will be held on August 16, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast, located at 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231.
