Gary Meyer
April 13, 1943 — March 4, 2016
Gary Lynn Meyer, 72, passed away March 4, 2016. He was preceded in death by wife, Carol; and parents, Charles Meyer and Betty Balthaser.
He is survived by sister, Jana (Tom) Blamble; aunt, Mary Jane; children, Mindy Hatfield (Nick), Charla (Rick) LaRosa, Gary (Beth) Meyer Jr., and Stacy (Roger) Friend; grandchildren, Jessica King, Crystal Hatfield, Britnie (David) Hogan, and Addie (Kory) Hatfield, and Shane (Breanna) Preece; great-grandchildren, Anthony Hatfield, Emma Hatfield, Olyvia Hogan, Cohen Hogan, Gage Hatfield, Saige Hogan, Carter Hatfield, Ellie Preece, and two on the way.
Gary served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, and was in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 where he was then honorably discharged with many honors, including a purple heart. He never lost the love for his country up to the day of his death. He was very proud to have served his country. He will deeply miss his VA family. Gary was also a member of Oakhurst Country Club and Hickory Hills Country Club, along with his wife, for many years. Gary and Carol also ran Finland Baseball and Football Association. Gary also refereed football and umpired baseball for many years during and following Finland Association. He absolutely loved his family, each and everyone of the them, for different reasons. He took care of his family until the day of his passing. Gary absolutely loved his wife, Carol. A special thank you to Nick for being there for dad.
Memorial Service Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 2pm with gathering one hour prior at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ohio State University Foundation (James Cancer Hospital), 1480 W. Lane Ave., Columbus, OH 43221.
