Gary Edwin Philbrick, 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 in Columbus, OH after a short battle with cancer. Gary was born on October 4, 1937 in Cleveland, OH to the late George and Hilda (Jones) Philbrick. Gary was a Management Consultant who was proud of his work helping retailers and wholesalers find profitability through inventory management. His career took him all over the United States, Europe and Australia. Most importantly, Gary's generosity and friendliness allowed him to develop many long-lasting friendships that continued well beyond his working years.
You cannot mention Gary's name without thinking about cars. His love of cars started when he was very young helping his father, who was a mechanic, work on cars in his garage. His pride and joy was a 1964 Studebaker Avanti, that he owned from new until finally selling it to another car enthusiast a few years ago that he knew would take very good care of it.
Even though he travelled widely, he raised his family in Worthington where his children attended Worthington High School. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Carol G. (Bischoff) Philbrick; son, Gary E. (Teresa) Philbrick, Jr.; daughter, Brenda E. Klein; grandchildren, Kelsey Esquinas, Morgan and Peggy Philbrick; siblings, Vicki Nenadal, Donna Dunn and Jon Philbrick. Gary is also survived by his sister-in-law, whom he helped raised from age 15, Mary Bischoff McIntyre (Chris) and her two children Jake and Ellie. Finally, he is survived by his granddog, Blue, who was a constant companion.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 11 am to 2 pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's honor to any Labrador Rescue organization or the American Cancer Society.
