Gary Lee Stewart passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024. He was born June 7, 1960 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Albert Stewart and Rita Robinson Stewart. He graduated from Brookhaven High School before embarking on a career as a devoted bus driver for over 30 years.
Gary's vibrant spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His passion for games and cards infused family gatherings with joy and laughter, leaving cherished memories among loved ones, many of whom wish they could give him the Queen one last time. Renowned for his mechanical skill, Gary's enthusiasm for working on cars extended beyond his own interests as he readily lent a helping hand to family and friends who needed his mechanical help. His love for teaching others to drive was matched only by the patience and encouragement shown while teaching them.
Throughout his life, Gary cultivated meaningful relationships within his immediate and extended family, as well as with numerous friends and coworkers. His non-judgmental nature and inclusive demeanor ensured that everyone felt accepted.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Travis Brady Stewart. He is survived by his daughters Angel Stewart (Clarence), Roseanna Stewart (Kenny), Sierra Berkhouse, and Pamela Shull, whom he cherished dearly. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter Lilyana, sister Sherry (Tom) Glover, brothers Terry (Rhonda) Stewart and Larry (Deanna) Stewart; ex-wife Sandra Shull; partner Shirley Smith; and special friend and caregiver, Dee Crouse. He will be missed by his nephews Cameron, Nick, Zach, Preston and David, as well as his nieces Jessica, Karrington, and Skye; by his aunts Ruth Stewart and Joyce Eddy, his bonus children Jeneil Rockhold, Mark Crouse, Valerie Crouse and bonus grandchild Teyvia, along with his goddaughter Erica Branham and close friend Jonathan Diffey.
Gary courageously fought to await the arrival of his granddaughter, Rita Jane (RJ), expected this May. Echoing the sentiment of Ecclesiastes 3, as his final season comes to close and RJ's first season begins, how special and beautiful the moment must be as they meet, headed in opposite directions of their journeys.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to all those who helped care for Gary during his battle with cancer.
A graveside service will be held this Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10 am, at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, OH.
