Gene H. Nelson

July 25, 1923 — January 28, 2018

Gene H. Nelson, went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2018. A life long resident of the Hilltop and graduate of West High School, class of June 1941. Member of St. John Lutheran Church since 1960. Preceded in death by beloved husband Harry "Jack" Nelson, son Terry Lee Walters, parents, Anthony and Theresa (Blum) Porter, sisters, Vivian Compton, Hilda Calentine, Albertine Bussey, Rose Wolfe, brothers, Erwin, George and Charles Blum.


Survived by son, Gerald (Sue) Walters, daughters, Debbie (Dick) Garling, Judith Wells, four grandchildren, Matt (Kasey) Hoskinson, Luke (Katie Pinney) Garling, Michele Smith, Cheri King, 13 great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews, especially close to Rita Compton, Carol (Len) Ritchard and Shirley Klump. Also special friends, Pastor Tom and Jeanne Phillips, Paul and Donna Berndt, Lisa and Harry Lustgarten.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, 2745 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH with Pastor Tom Phillips officiating. The service will begin at 4pm with the immediate family greeting friends and extended family members beginning at 3:30pm. Cremation arrangements by Newcomer Funeral Home in Grove City and later interment at Sunset Cemetery.
