George Jerome Decarlo Sr.
December 1, 1953 — February 6, 2020
DeCarlo, George Jerome Sr., 66, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at his residence. George was born on Tuesday, December 1, 1953 in Columbus. Ohio.
He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and attended God's Glory Temple Church in Columbus, Ohio for many years. Among the many genres of music George enjoyed, his favorites were gospel music quartets. These included The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Fantastic Violinaires, The Gospel Keynotes, The Five Blind Boys, and the Jackson Southernnaires. George, as a gifted drummer and percussionist shared his gifts and talents with many choirs and gospel groups locally and nationally. To name a few, the Oak Ridge Boys, and the Timesman Trio as their featured drummer.
George received his formal education in the Columbus City School System. During the Vietnam Era, he enlisted in the United States Army and was granted an honorable discharge.
His last duty assignment was at Fort Campbell in Kentucky where he received his culinary skills as a Chef and a Food Service Specialist. His awards consist of The National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge. His group affiliations were The Disabled American Veterans Association, The American Legion, The Wounded Warrior Project and The USO. He loved old classic cars and enjoyed working on his 1967 Gray Oldsmobile Cutlass and his 1976 Gold Oldsmobile Delta 88. In addition to his many hobbies, he considered himself a pit barbeque grill master, and an accomplished baker and cook.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Loies Pittman; step-father, John L. Hobson; sister, Wendalene L. Harris; brother, Caley C. Chapman. He is survived by, his mother, Dr. Wendy De Hobson; sons, Pastor G. Jerome (Terrella) DeCarlo II, Danyiel D.(Shauntaye) DeCarlo; grandsons, G. Jerome DeCarlo III, Ezra Joel. DeCarlo, Grant Nathaniel Wilder; sisters, Shirlene C. (Gregory P. ) Olson, Indiana, Cassandra L. Chapman, Rozalene D. Mason, Sylvia (Mark ) Bell, Victoria L. (Sean) Campbell, brother, Roosevelt D. Reed, Columbus, Ohio. A host of other nieces, nephews, and relatives. He was greatly loved by his family, friends and neighbors.

Visitation /Military Honors Ceremony will be Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43231.
Interment will be held on Friday, April 17th, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Dayton National Cemetery.
