George Marshall Meyer, 97, of Columbus, OH, passed away November 12, 2025. He was born in Blanca, Colorado on November 2, 1928 to Ernest and Edna Hinds Meyer. He served 6-1/2 years in the United States Army. George was a part of the famous Berlin Airlift at the end of World War II and spent 15 months in Korea.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Juanita Dickerson and Jean Reese, one infant son, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He is survived by his wife, Joan, one daughter, Amy Meyer Cochran (Jon), two grandsons, Allen and John Collins, great-grandsons, Blake, Caleb, Gabe, Kyle, Darwin and Maxwell Collins, one niece, Kerry Lehman, and one great-niece Nita Birdsong, both of Washington.
George was a member of Living Word Lutheran Church, Galena. He was a former member of the good Sam Camping Club, and Nomads, as a volunteer in reconstruction of church related properties and camp grounds. George loved working with his hands, and building and decorating fancy bird houses. He also loved to build, fix and refurbish things. He spent several ears as a "handy man" at the Refectory Restaurant as well as helping neighbors and friends.
One highlight of his life was his trip to Washington D. C with the Honor Flight group. He and Joan also took many trips out west. George was formerly employed by V. N. Holderman and Sons and Guepel Construction Company.
