George Anthony Sabo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Logan, West Virginia, George moved to Columbus as a teenager and graduated from South High School. He dedicated many years of his life to his work as a truck driver with Allied Beverage and Hills Distribution, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and quiet pride in a job well done.
George had a gentle heart and a deep love for animals, always making room in his life for the pets who found their way to him. He found his greatest peace on the water, spending countless days fishing on the lake with his best friend, Bill Waldo. A devoted sports fan, George rarely missed a Buckeyes or Browns game and enjoyed cheering on WWE and NASCAR with the same enthusiasm.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his humor, and the simple joys he cherished — time with family, good conversation, and the comfort of familiar routines.
George is survived by his daughters, Leslie Sabo (Luke Fraelich) and Staci (Paul) Hoffman; his grandchildren, Logan Thompson, Grace Henley, and Sam Hoffman; brother, John Sabo. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Sabo; mother, Rose (Risko) Sabo; sister, Rosemary Swisher; and his wife, Sandra Sabo, whom he loved dearly.
His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with those who went before him and that his legacy lives on in the memories he leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of George at the visitation, which will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. A service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., also at the Newcomer Southwest Chapel, with burial to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery (1000 Green Lawn Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43223).
