Godfrey Ludaway Sr., age 78, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026. Born on October 18, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, Godfrey was a proud Ohio native—yet an avid Michigan football fan at heart. He lived a life filled with humor, loyalty, and the simple joys that brought him solace. He loved casting a fishing line at dawn, playing cards on Saturdays with his brothers and friends, and sharing years of laughter as a founding member of Snag and Bag.
For 53 beautiful years, he was devoted to his beloved wife and dancing partner, Sharon, with whom he built a life rooted in love, partnership, and family. Godfrey retired from the State of Ohio after 28 years of dedicated service, remembered for his steady presence, kindness, and strong work ethic.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Annie (Long) Ludaway; siblings Doris, Vivian, Louis “Anthony”, Andrew “Mark”, Arnetta, and Wade Sr.; and his daughter Sherrie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Sharon; sons John Skillman and Godfrey Jr. (Lisa); siblings Richard Jr., Raymond, Matthew (Teresa), Eric (Fannie), Peggy, Velma, Wanda, and Ronnie (Janice); grandchildren Dominiquea, Xaviare, JaQuale, Brianna, Eva, and Shianne; great-grandchildren Kaylynn, LaSchelle, Mariah, Myah, Kelsey, Christian, and Brayden; extended family; special friend Brian Reed. A host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones will carry his light within them.
Godfrey will be remembered for his easy smile, his generous heart, and the way he made people feel like family. His legacy will continue through the recounting of the stories he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the love he shared so freely.
May he rest in eternal peace.
