Gregory S. Berton

Gregory S Berton, a retired firefighter and paramedic with 39 years of service at the Prairie Township Fire Department, passed away peacefully at his Galloway home on May 11, 2026 at the age of 73.

Greg traded the sirens for the hum of a lawnmower and the busy pace of the firehouse for the loyal companionship of his dog, Jaxx. When he wasn't outdoors, meticulously cutting his grass in retirement, Greg was a history enthusiast; he had a deep appreciation for a good documentary and could spend hours immersed in the stories and mysteries of the past, and hours sharing what he learned.

He is survived by his daughters, Kari (Christian) Youngblood of Collinsville, VA and Kristen Berton, of Knoxville, TN; his dog, Jaxx; several granddogs; brother, Jeff Berton, and nephew, Chad Berton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Waunda Lou Berton.

A cremation will take place with a celebration of life at a later date.
