Hannah Marie Melin Otto Schrader joined the love of her life, Ben Otto, in Heaven, on what would have
been their 73rd wedding anniversary, March 20, 2020. It might have been sooner, but in typical Marie
fashion, she wanted just "five more minutes".
The daughter of Ruth (Brown) and Russell Melin, born October 11, 1925 in Ludington Michigan, she
graduated from Manistee High School at age 16, attended Western Michigan University, and earned her
R.N. at Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. A kind caring person Marie provided baked
goodies for every occasion. She was known to stay up all night creating clothing, costumes, mittens, etc.
for her children. Doctor's hospital NICU looked forward to boxes of tiny knitted booties for their babies.
Marie retired as plant nurse from the GE Lamp Plant in Circleville in 1985.
Marie was preceded in death by husband Ben A. Otto, second husband William Schrader, parents, sister
Melissa (Dewey) Bucher, brother Russell Melin and son-in-law Paul VanDyke.
She will be greatly missed by daughters, Ruth VanDyke, Amy (Don) Slobodien, Carol Yates and Beth
Staggs; sister-in-law Betty Melin; step-children, William (Gloria) Schrader, Jr., Cybrian (Aaron) Stambler,
Kim (Teri) Schrader, Jill (Doug) Turner, Russell Schrader, Barbara Schrader; grandchildren, Benjamin and
Brook Slobodien, Sarah and Stuart Yates, Corinne (Dan) Tagliarina, Emily (Joe) McClung, Rachel Staggs
and Kirstie Conklin, 17 step-grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 34 step-great-grandchildren; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the caregivers at Brookdale Pinnacle and Brookdale Hospice for their tender loving
care.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, Grove City, Ohio at a date TBD. Memorial
contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or any charity of your choice.
As Marie was known to say, "I'm not sleeping, I'm just resting my eyes".
