Harry E. "Bud" Manes, 86, of Columbus, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 from complications of lewy body dementia. Born January 19, 1930 in Mount Pulaski, Illinois, to Eugene and Harriet Manes. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Manes, brother-in-law, Jim Hayes and sister-in-law Gloria Manes. Bud was a direct descendent of Jabez Capps, who was a good friend of Abraham Lincoln and one of three principal founders of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois.

Bud received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Illinois University in 1951. Upon the outbreak of the Korean War, Bud enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served until the conclusion of the war. He later attained a Masters Degree from Colorado State University. He was a teacher of U.S. History at Elkhart and Mt Pulaski High Schools for 25 years, where he also served as basketball and baseball coach. He completed his career as an independent crop/hail insurance agent.

Bud was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish, and work in his garden. He became a steward of the game of golf, and was a beloved member and club champion at Foxfire Golf Club where he had many friends and good times. He was a life member of American Legion Post #447, Mt Pulaski, IL.

Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Manes; children, Tanya Servais, Kimberly Demkovich, Steven (Janice) Manes, and Stanley (Andrea) Manes; stepchildren, Debbie (Jon) Phillips, Becky (Ray) Saggio, Laurie (Doug) Whitley, Ron (Jill) Vogel, Michael Vogel, and Jenny (Tim) McAndrew; 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sisters, Harriet Colleen Hayes and Marilyn (Roy) Kinert.

Visitation will be from 4pm - 7pm on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City with a prayer service/eulogy at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church, 1600 N Hague Ave, Columbus, with a bereavement lunch to follow in Kulp Hall. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kobacker House at 800 McConnell Rd, Columbus, OH, or to the American Legion Post #447, Mt Pulaski, IL.
