Helen Mae Applegate, 90, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 in Worthington, OH surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 9, 1923 in Bronx, NY.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Lillian (Bryant) Southgate; brothers, Al Southgate and Robert Killough; and son, Steven Applegate.
She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Cottrill; grandchildren, James Cottrill, Julie (Art) Kitchell, and Josh Cottrill; four great grandchildren, Sophia and Emma Cottrill, Haley Spivey, and Kylie Swanson; and nieces Helen Joyce Williams, and Karen (Jimmy) Ferra.
Helen graduated high school in New York before moving to Cleveland, OH. From there, she moved to Columbus to raise her children. Helen was a very likeable person, and she never met a stranger. She enjoyed camping, traveling, and being outdoors. She was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Helen will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
A memorial service will be held for Helen at a later date. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the staff at The Laurels of Worthington for providing her excellent care.
