Helen M. (Bowen) Martin
A graduate of Vales Mill Rural High School class of 1944, she married in 1949 and moved to Columbus where she remained until 1984 when she returned to Vinton County.
She retired from Columbus Public Schools in 1984 where she worked as a cook at Whetstone High School.
She was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church, Triangle Chapter of Eastern Stars, and Wilkesville American Legion Auxiliary.
In her retirement, she became active as a volunteer helping the Vinton County Senior Citizens (1988-2000), Vinton County Retired Senior Volunteer Program where she delivered Meals on Wheels (1988-2000).
She also delivered the Athens Messenger in McArthur from 1988-1996 while she cared for her mother Luella until her death in 1998.
In 2000, she moved in with her daughter and became a member of the Westerville Senior Center, but was always proud of her Vinton County heritage.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Dave) Ramsey of Columbus; sister, Minnie (Dick) Hersey of St. Peters, Missouri; grandson, David (Alexis) Ramsey Jr. of Reynoldsburg; great grandchildren, Ethan and Alyson Ramsey; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gomer and Luella Bowen; brothers, Robert E., Harry T. and Timothy Bowen; sister, Dorothy Bowen and her ex-husband of 32 years, George W. Martin Jr.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 2:00-3:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, with the memorial service beginning at 3:00 PM.
