Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather
Heman M. Vasandani, 86, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on November 4, 2025. He was born in Karachi, Sindh (then part of India) as the eldest of six children to Mangharam and Tirthbai Vasandani. He is survived by his wife Poonam, daughter Lata, son Dinesh, daughter in law Mehak and grandchildren Divesh and Deeyaa.
Heman’s early years were marked by hardship when his family was forced to leave Sindh after the Partition. They lost their ancestral home and land, making a new life in post-partition India. The Vasandani family settled in Delhi, Agra, and Bombay (Mumbai), where Heman lived for many years. As a young man, he moved to Agra to complete his diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Agra University in 1960.
In 1965, Heman married his beloved wife Poonam, and together they built a warm and joyful home. They had two children and enjoyed a life filled with family gatherings and celebrations in Bombay. Heman loved traveling with his family, taking his children to visit relatives in different cities and explore India’s rich cultural history. Those holidays were filled with laughter and cherished memories. They recently celebrated 60 years together, a great milestone.
In 1986, seeking better opportunities for his children, Heman emigrated to the United States, joining relatives in Columbus, Ohio. His early years in America were challenging. Despite being a trained mechanical engineer, Heman worked outside his field to support his family. He never once complained about leaving behind his career and friends, always focused on providing for his loved ones with unwavering dedication.
A man of deep humility and quiet strength, Heman faced life’s challenges with grace, kindness, and a smile. His generosity was boundless, and his spirit was gentle. He never sought recognition, always preferring to remain humble and self-respecting. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life —listening to music and watching movies from his era (KL Saigal and Sohrab Modi among his favorites).
In his later years, Heman and Poonam were blessed to become proud grandparents to twins—a grandson and granddaughter. He adored them, and the love was mutual. His time with them brought him immense joy and will remain one of his most treasured memories. Heman lived by the principle of "forget and forgive," always letting go of grudges and embracing life with an open heart. He was a man with few needs, never driven by material desires, and always quick to lend a hand to those in need.
Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort knowing that his spirit is now free of earthly bonds. His legacy of love, humility, and compassion will continue to guide our family.
