Herman W. Brown, ready to hear the angels sing, went home to heaven on Monday, September 5. Herman was born in 1922 in Highland County, OH to Clarence and Grace Prine Brown, who have preceded him in death. He married Margaret Shoemaker in 1945 and they shared 66 years of marriage until her death in 2011.
He is survived by daughter, Sue Ellen (Michael) Miller; son, Robin W. Brown; and granddaughter, Bethany Miller.
Herman served in the Navy as Lt.JG. He graduated from Otterbein College and received his M.A. at The Ohio State University. Herman taught school in Pleasant Hill, and then in the Columbus Public Schools including time as a television geography teacher and as a reading clinic individual tutor. In retirement he worked for Equitable Insurance.
Herman loved the natural world and exploring it through travel and camping. He was an avid reader, a musician and was always ready for a hands-on project. He was an active church member all of his life, enjoying Bible study, small group fellowship and choir. Most recently he has been a member of the Church of the Redeemer United Methodist Church.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at Church of the Redeemer United Methodist Church, 235 McNaughten Rd. Columbus, OH 43213 followed by a funeral service at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the HEART Food Pantry, 6475 E. Main St. Suite 126, Reynoldsburg, OH or The Ohio Health Hospice in Herman's honor.
