H.L. "Dick" Stewart

June 2, 1937 — November 19, 2014

In memory of Mr. Harry L. (Dick) Stewart, Age 77. Dick passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on November 19, 2014 at the Kobaker House Columbus Ohio. His illness of cancer was diagnosed in May 2014 and he never gave up on a cure and fought whole heartedly until the end.
When Harry (Dick) met Judy it was hot steamy August night at a dance in Harrisburg Ohio in 1955. He saw Judy at the dance and told his buddies that she was the girl he was going to marry. They teased him about not even knowing her name. He finally got the nerve to introduce himself after stalking her to her car. They were married in September 1956 at Judy's Uncles home in Georgesville Ohio. They never had a formal honeymoon but life was always a honeymoon! They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage!

There first place together was on the Hilltop behind Jerry Spears Funeral Home. Dick worked there as a driver and their first child, Marsha was born there. They later moved to the town of Georgesville where Larry and Barry were born. Later they moved to Lincoln Village where there daughter Ruth was born.

Judy & Dick moved from the great state of Ohio to a state called Michigan. They lived there for 20 years. In their free time they enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling, and outdoor life. In 2002 Dick had open heart surgery and realized that Michigan was not the place for him and Judy any longer (duh) and moved back to Columbus Ohio to be with his family (yeah).

Dick worked throughout his life at Westinghouse, Lucus Electric and C-Pack before retiring. Dick was also an at-home auto mechanic and always performed it with a passion. Anyone with car troubles could always count on Dick to not only know what the problem was but he couldn't point to it.

Dick enjoyed NASCAR, Ohio State Football, coaching of youth athletics and for some reason loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. They might have a chance now that he can coach from above! He loved his grandkids and great grand kids and they could do no wrong. What happened at Bamaw and Papaws place stayed a secret! More than anything, Dick enjoyed being with his family and friends. He always made every event into a good time and had the ability of making everyone around him laugh in his own special way. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Dick is survived by his wife, Judith A. (Karnes) Stewart. By his children, Marsha (John) Wolverton, Barry Stewart, Larry Stewart, & Ruth (Doug) Smith. Grandchildren Cris, Jennifer, Heidi, Erynne (Nate), Emylie, Benjamin, Zachary & Daphne. Great-grandchildren Reece, Matthew, Elijah and Xander. Also survived by his Aunt Mabel Fulton, Sister in laws Lucille Stewart, Carolyn Stewart and Saundra Karnes and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends As well as faithful furry companions Riddick, Abby, Whitey, Blackie and Socks.

Dick is preceded in death by grandparents, Ora & Minnie Stewart and Harry & Goldie Hix; parents Earl W. & Nellie (Hix) Stewart. Brother Raymond Stewart, Nephew Raymond D. Stewart and Brother in law James A Karnes.
A Special Thank You to the staff at Kobacker House & Ohio Health Hospice for being kind and loving to Dick in his time of need.
