Howard Kenneth Fitzpatrick, 87, passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, a strong and enduring work ethic, and a good-humored personality enjoyed by all who knew him.
Born in 1938, Howard grew up learning the values of hard work and perseverance. In 1956, he moved from Eastern Kentucky to Columbus, beginning a new chapter filled with opportunity and promise. He carried those early lessons into a lifetime of entrepreneurship in the concrete and carpentry trades, earning a reputation for craftsmanship, integrity, and reliability. A fierce perfectionist, Howard took great pride in creating work that was built to last with his own hands.
Howard and his wife, Alka, opened their hearts and home to countless children over more than 20 years as devoted foster parents. His compassion, patience, and sense of responsibility touched many lives, offering safety, guidance, and stability to those who needed it most.
Outside of work, Howard found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved listening to bluegrass music, watching Westerns on TV Land, mowing the grass, wintering in Tampa, and baking Pillsbury cookies.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alka Fitzpatrick, in 2016. He is survived by his two sons, Bill and Ken; two sisters, Linda Johnson and Brenda Russell; two grandsons, Josh and Ryan; and many great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward.
