Flowers (Hopkins)

Ida E. (Hopkins) Flowers was born in Blair, South Carolina on November 21, 1932 to the late Lonnie and Bessie Hopkins. Ida was a strong independent woman, living for 83 years as a daughter, mother, sister, and loving aunt until her passing on Friday May 13, 2016 at Mayfair Village where she was surrounded by family. Growing up with four brothers was a badge of honor for Ida. She knew everything about sports and could engage in any conversation about past and present players for baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis - you name it, she knew it. She wasn't shy about who she liked and who she didn't like. Her greatest joy in life was her daughter Jacqueline "Jackie" Amos. Jackie was born in 1954 and like her mother was a strong independent woman until a illness started to rob her of her freedom. Ida's role as a mother expanded and instantly she became the sole caregiver for Jackie until her death in 1998. Family was important to Ida. Following Jackie's passing, she decided to return to Columbus to be with her brothers - Clyde, Bill, Lonnie, and Ted. She had a special bond with each one of her brothers and spent countless hours talking sports, loving family, and making memories that we all are cherishing today. Ida loved to read. She would read the newspaper everyday from beginning to end - every single word and could engage in conversations about any current event whether it be local or national news. Ida was passionate about life and cared deeply for her loved ones. Ida is preceded in death by: parents, Lonnie and Bessie Hopkins; daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Amos; brothers, Theodore "Ted" Hopkins, Sr. (Phyllis), Lonnie Hopkins, Sr. (JoAnn), Willie J. (Bill) Hopkins, Sr., and Clyde Hopkins. Left to cherish her memory and to carry on the Hopkins legacy are: nieces Pamela Hopkins, Linda Hopkins, Teena Hopkins, Terrie Hopkins TerMeer, and Theresa Hopkins Dearing (Winnie); nephews Keith Hopkins (Velma), Lonnie LeRoy Hopkins, Jr., Theodore "Hoppy" Hopkins, Jr. (Pamila), Tracy Hopkins, and Willie J. Hopkins, Jr. (Carla); sister-in-law, Christine Hopkins and a host of great nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.
