Indu Prova Barua, 91, passed away peacefully without pain or suffering on June 30th, 2026 at 1:33pm.
She is preceded in death by her husband of over 58 years, Sanat K. Barua, along with her parents, Aranyasswar Barua and Snehalata Barua, 7 sisters and 1 brother.
Indu is survived by her only daughter, Shanta M. Barua Biswas, and son-in-law Goutam Biswas and her two granddaughters, Dr. Romina Isabella Biswas and Miss Milana Isabella Biswas. Additionally, she is survived by only 1 of her 8 sisters.
Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh, she decided to be a nurse at a very young age. When her father passed away when she was very young, she realized that caring for family was in her nature and caring for other people was next. At the time, she was one of the youngest nurses in her field but she was a pro. After her marriage in 1965, she came to the US with her husband and her 3 year old daughter in 1970 where she continued working at Grant Hospital. She worked with countless surgeons over the years, and she loved assisting in the operating room. That was her passion.
After working at Grant Hospital for over 30 years, she decided to retire to be a full time grandmother for her first grandchild. It was the summer of 2000, she was 65 and she wanted this time with her first grandchild. The timing all lined up perfectly. Then she was thrilled to do it all over again with the birth of her second grandchild in 2005. Two granddaughters was like being a “girl mom” again. She treasured the time when it was just the 3 of them. Bragging about both was never out of the conversation. She was deeply involved in spending time with both and helping to raise them from birth through grade school.
In life, it was “family first" and she loved spending time with her extended family members. She always volunteered and wanted to be another guiding light in their life, loved helping out and being around other people around town. Countless nieces and nephews were also in her care through her life. Everyone trusted her expertise as a nurse and she loved children.
She was actively involved in cultural and social activities within the community.
She danced when she was asked. She acted in plays when she was asked. BACO (Bangladesh Association of Central Ohio) and COBCA (Central Ohio Bengali Cultural Association) were organizations that she not only performed in but also, they were the recipients of her cooking expertise for functions. Those that were blessed to be invited to her house for dinner always had at least 10 to 15 items on the table and an overfilled belly on the way home. ( and if they were lucky, they got to take home leftovers)
When dementia was diagnosed and progressed, the exuberant life everyone loved had shifted to a world of stillness that was hard to fathom for her family and friends. Her life of constant nonstop friends and family and fun was a memory she could not remember. Slowly her life was darkness and one she could not remember. However, while most succumbed to dementia early, her stamina was still there and she outlived so many in her family including her beloved husband. While his death was not known or understood to her 3 years ago on 7/30/2023, it seems poignant she chose the 30th to take her last breath. An ode to loyalty and love you can never explain.
In lieu of flowers, the Biswas and Barua families request that you make a donation to either a Dementia or Alzheimer’s organization as a tribute to her memory of helping others.
