Jack J. Clayton, age 86, was born October 31, 1929 and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2016. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Born at home on Lovers Lane, Hartford Township, Licking County, Ohio and was the eighth child of Otis and Bertha (Cantlebary) Clayton. He graduated from Hartford High School where he participated in football, basketball, and track.
Jack was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served in Korea as a Medical Aidman during the Korean Police Action.
Jack was a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering and was employed at Battelle Memorial Institute with 40 years of service. While employed at Battelle, he was a member of the BMI Federal Credit Union where he served on the Board of Directors for eight years, and was elected to the BMI FCU Hall of Fame.
Jack was a Life Member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, 60 year and Life Member of the Bloomfield (now Mt. Zion) Masonic Lodge, and Life Member of the Bentonville, Ohio Anti-Horse Thief Society.
Jack was a member of the Gillie 50+ Recreation Center for many years, and served on the Gillie Council for eight years.
He was an avid camper and hiker and Honorary Member of the Cousins Camping Group.
Member of the Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club, The Allemanders and the Wednesday Afternoon Dancers and was also a very amateur photographer.
Jack is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Jo Ann (Wilson) Clayton; daughter, LuAnn (Tracy) Molter; sons, Randy (Linda) Clayton and Matthew Clayton (Chris); grandchildren, Andrew (Laura) Molter, Alicia (John) Grossman, Austin Molter (Stef Alamo), Mattison Clayton and; step-grandchildren, Victor (Sandy) Ciccolello, Lisa (Dan) Stollar and Chelsey Arthur; great-grandchildren, Annabelle Molter and Josie Grossman; six step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Rudolph, Gordon, Royal and Ralph; and sisters, Helen Kirkpatrick and Margaret Marie (infant).
Family will receive friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231.
Jack and Jo were nearly 50 year adherents of Riverside Bible Church, 5330 Olentangy River Rd. Columbus, OH 43235, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 with David Crawford Officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Bible Church in Jack's memory.
