Jacqueline “Jackie” VanGelder, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on September 6th, 2025. Born in Cumberland, Maryland, Jackie lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love.
Jackie moved to Columbus in 1987, where she built a warm and welcoming life surrounded by those she loved most. She had an unwavering passion for the Lord and dedicated her life to being a dutiful shepherd, joyfully spreading the Good Word. Alongside her late husband, Jackie was an active member of Bible Baptist Church in Grove City, where they volunteered faithfully, teaching Sunday school and helping organize the church’s annual summer carnival.
Jackie worked in several roles throughout her life, including as a housekeeper and maid at a local family motel in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and later at the Eagle Convex Glass Factory. In her later years, she served as a daycare team member at Cypress Christian School, where her gentle spirit and loving heart touched the lives of many children. But of all her roles, her most cherished and fulfilling titles were mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Jackie loved simple joys — completing puzzles, scrapbooking treasured memories, and playing with her beloved dog, Loki. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family, especially her precious great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Ashton.
She will be remembered for her kindness, humility, and fierce love for the Lord. Jackie’s life was a reflection of her faith, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
Jackie is preceded in death by her dutiful husband Edward VanGelder; her parents Roy and Margaret Martin; her great-grandparents Hazel and Hurley Carpenter; her loving sisters Edna (John) Snyder, Jean (Wade) George, Betty (Gilbert) Morrison, and Mary (Manuel) Prieto; and her kind-hearted grandson Jordan Coen.
Jackie is survived by her loving family: her sister Sharon Kelley, her fierce-hearted daughter Tammy Coen-Ramsey, her loyal and loving son Jay (Jenni) VanGelder; her grandchildren Parker VanGelder, Shelby VanGelder, and Whitney Ramsey; her great-grandchildren Ashton Ward and Eleanor Gower. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Grove City Ohio, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio, 43123, on September 13th, 2025. Services will include a viewing from 9 am to 10 am and a funeral service at 10 am, followed by interment at Galloway Cemetery following service. Officiated by Stan Slabaugh.
