On May 9, 2026, the world lost an extraordinary man, James “Handsome Jim” Cooper. A proud Army veteran and paratrooper, James was a true jack-of-all-trades who could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, such as truck driver and Teamster, landlord, realtor, school bus driver, hot air balloonist, dog breeder, and a devoted brother and Tyler in the Freemasons. But above all else, James was a family man. He shared more than 50 loving years of marriage with his wife, Linda, and was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend to many. Known for his humor, unwavering kindness, and deep compassion, James never met a stranger. He opened his home and heart to anyone in need and would gladly give the shirt off his back to help someone else. James lived his life standing firmly by his beliefs and values, serving as an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of generosity, strength, and love will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his Daughter Rhonda Cooper. Mom and Pop Frank and Vola Cooper. Siblings Sharon Delaney(Ed), Brenda Shirley(Roger) and her son Bryan. Gary Cooper(Linda) and many more who will welcome him with open arms. He is survived by his wife Linda Cooper. His granddaughters Brooke Gearheart (Schindler), and Courtney Jackson (Sean). His great-grandchildren Josie and Levi Jackson(Courtney). His siblings Lynn Hughes(Phillip) and Ronnie Cooper(Lesley). His Brother-in-law Jack Ellis(Corrine) and Sister-in-law Barbara Ellis(Daniel). His niece Wendy Ellis(Shannon) and nephew Jackie Ellis. And many other wonderful family members that meant so much to him.
