James Dean Simpson, Sr, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at McNaughten Pointe. "Jimmie" was born to the late Raymond and Annie Simpson in Etowah, TN on January 1, 1918.
He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during WWII. He was a master carpenter, mason, and a brilliant mathematician. In the course of his 97 years on this earth, he saw many magnificent changes, but one of his greatest accomplishments in his words was "voting for the first negro president, Barack Obama."
Jimmie is preceded in death by his only sibling, Helen Simpson Henegar.
He leaves to cherish his memory his special love Ramona Simpson Wilson; his children, James Dean Simpson Jr., James Dean (Veronica) Simpson Jr. II, Latonya De'Lynn (Robert) Wilson, Kevin Dean (Angela) Simpson, Larry Dean Simpson, Tonya (Richard) Starks, Thomas Bennett, Karen Denise (Arnold) Smith; a host of grandchildren; many great-grandchildren with special great-granddaughter, Trinity Wilson; and several members of the McNaughten Pointe nursing staff.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 10:00am-11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Rd. Columbus, OH 43231 followed by Funeral Services at 11:00am with Pastor Jim Blankenship officiating. Jimmie will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
